I've been dealing with this brain beast the better part of 2016 and while I've used social media and emails to keep loved ones updated on my situation, I've had several people ask me if I am keeping a journal, including our family physician. I'm generally a traditional pen and paper journalist. With the loss of mobility in my left-hand, and being "a lefty" journalling felt like another unsurmountable task to add to my list of "maybe someday". I discovered in the hospital that I could use the voice to text feature on my smart phone to document a few of my thoughts to a private "notebook" at LDS.org. Longer statements were cumbersome to dictate and record without errors, so I stuck to one or two sentences a day. I would record what I was truly grateful for that particular day, and that helped me keep a positive outlook on my situation. Recently I decided that now is the time to record my story. I'm already forgetting chunks here and there and I don't want to lose this time. As undesirable as my situation is there is much good that has emerged and needs be recognized for my sake and for others. I posted my intention on Facebook and invited friends to name my blog. I've got some clever and funny friends! I'm chuckling just copying them down! Here are their ideas: The good humored, tumored Andrea When life gives you brain tumors... Still got most of my marbles My half brain is still better than most The Journey of my mind Tumor Schumor Half A Brain But Not Adled The Voices In My Head Are Real Brain Development In My Thirties Relearning Everything A Chance To Grow No Brain No Problem Brain Case Good Tumored My Brainstorm I'm still me Andrea's Story Brained there and gone I forgot what this is about Pockets of Sunshine As much as I loved ALL the suggestions and will most likely use several as post titles, the ones that really stood out to me were "MyBrainstorm" and "PocketsOf Sunshine". Those domains are already spoken for (go figure.) So I turned to my oldest daughter for help. She has a way with words and I knew she would come up with a variation that wasn't too complicated, was general enough, but still described my story in a nutshell. And sure enough, she pulled through. I am "Braving the Brainstorm", with the help of my Ester. Thanks, love!
